Meet the Guides

We pride ourselves in providing clients with experienced and knowledgeable guides, most of whom have grown up fly fishing in Southwestern Montana. Since our business is small, Jack and Tony Jr. take as many clients as possible along with the help of our trusted master guide, Chris Bugni.

Tony Schoonen Sr.

Tony retired from guiding in 2012 at the age of 81, but is still active with the family business. He often shuttles the vehicles with his grandson or just shows up to talk about fishing with the clients. Tony is a retired elementary principal and he raised his family in Butte, Montana. Being a lifelong active fisherman, who was raised in Twin Bridges, he has a wealth of knowledge about the rivers and fish in Southwestern Montana. He has also fought for public access issues his entire life and was instrumental in the passage of the stream access law.

Tony Schoonen Jr.

Tony is the outfitter for Blue Ribbon Guide Service and lives in Missoula, Montana with his wife, Jennifer, and two daughters, Carli and Brookie. They are an avid outdoor family. Tony was raised in Butte, and he has fished his entire life. Tony Jr. is currently the Chief of Staff of the Boone and Crockett Club, and has been involved in conservation and the outdoor industry for 30 years. He started guiding in 1979.

Jack Schoonen

Jack is a middle school science teacher, who lives in Butte, Montana with his wife, Wendy, and daughter, Helena. He runs most of the day-to-day operations of the guide service. Jack loves to hunt, steelhead fish, and fly fish for trout. He grew up in Butte, and he has lived in Southwestern Montana his entire life. Jack started guiding in 1984.

Chris Bugni

Chris was born and raised in Butte, Montana, and he has lived in southwestern Montana his entire life. He is the son of the vice president of the Stream Access Association, so he understands how lucky we are to be able to fish all the fantastic water in Montana. His dad, Tom Bugni, is also an outfitter for fishing trips and bird hunts. When not guiding or hunting birds and big game, Chris works as an elementary teacher in Butte. He has been guiding for 27 years.
